Dr.ESWARA
DAS, who has been working as Deputy Advisor (Homoeopathy)
to Government of India retired from the service on
31st July 2010. He has completed 32 years of illustrious
Government service in various capacities. He is an
all-round personality as an acclaimed clinician, an
admired academician, an inquisitive researcher, a
conscientious writer and an assiduous orator. He has
rich experience in the policy matters with clarity
of vision on the future of Homoeopathy.
He was working as the Director, National Institute
of Homoeopathy, Kolkata from 2008 and returned to
his parent cadre due to personal reasons before retiring
from the Govt. service. An excellent person who
maintain highest level of personal rapport with every
person he meet and always prefer to maintain low profile
on his contribution. Dr. Das is a rare breed of technocrat
in the profession. His departure from active service
to the Government is a great loss to the system.
He was the first rank holder of the first batch of
the DHMS course from Tamil Nadu in 1974. He was selected
by the Government of India to the Dip NIH post Diploma
course conducted by the National Institute of Homoeopathy
in 1979 and successfully completed the same. He has
done his MD in Case Taking and Repertory from Marathwada
University, Aurangabad , MBA in Health Care from Faculty
of Management Studies, Delhi University and Diploma
in Hospital Administration from the YMCA Institute
of Management, Delhi.
He joined in the Central Government Health Scheme
as a Medical Officer in 1979 as soon as he completed
the Dip NIH course from NIH, Kolkata and was promoted
to Senior Medical Officer and then to Chief Medical
Officer. In 1993, he joined the Ministry of Health
& Family Welfare, Government of India as Assista nt
Advisor (Homoeopathy) and subsequently was promoted
to Deputy Advisor (Homoeo). During this period he
contributed on several policy matters on Health Care,
standards of education, quality control of Drugs etc.
He had worked in different capacities in various Committees
of the Government, visited
several countries and contributed in the development
of Homoeopathy. Mainstreaming of Homoeopathy, Preventive
& Community Health care are his main
areas of interest. He has also worked as Consultant
to Government of Sri Lanka (Homoeopathy) for one year.
He has contributed in creating public awareness through
National campaigns especially the flagship scheme
of the Department of AYUSH on Mother & Child care,
developing Tele-Homoeopathy service to provide primary
health care to the people in the rural and remote
areas of India, implementing Homoeopathy in Community
based health care, guiding organizations in Kenya
on Malaria research etc.
He has published two books; one is on “Causation
of diseases” and another on the “History
of Homoeopathy around the World” and its present
Status. He have published numerous articles in various
journals and presented several papers in India and
abroad. He is also the Honorary Editor of the Asian
Homoeopathic Journal.
He can handle several Indian languages like Malayalam,
Tamil, Hindi, Bengali etc. He is actively interested
in opening new avenues for Homoeopathy through research
in veterinary, Dental practices, plant protection
etc. The international seminar on Recent Advances
in Homoeopathy organized under his dynamic leadership
at Kolkata in February, 2010 was a unique experience
of the highest level of professionalism and it helped
to put the Institute on the global map. It is understood
that he has laid down a road map of development for
NIH for the future and a life size statue of Hahnemann
in bronze is to be installed in the premises soon.
