Phytolacca Decandra, the pokeroot is a miraculous and wonderful medicine from the plant kingdom, belonging to the natural order Phytolaccaceae.Phytolacca Decandra which has the synonym "Phytolacca Americca " is invariably used in Homoeopathic practice. Another popular remedy is Phytolacca Berry also used as anti fat remedy.
Opinion of Different Authors:
Master J.T. Kent has grouped Phytolacca under 'Vegetable Mercury' along with Podophyllum and Mezerium. This is because of the contradictory nature of Phytolacca which, though it is a chilly remedy all the complaints are aggravated by hot application and hot fluid.
"Like Arnica, the head and face are hot while the body and limbs are cool, according to Dr.E.B.Nash. Kali Hydroiodicum is the
chemical remedy, which closely resembles Phytolacca in its action on the periosteum , glands , bones and skin. So he has
regarded Phytolacca as the vegetable analogue of Kali
Hydroiodicum.
Dr.H.C. Allen has kept Phytolacca in a place midway between Bryonia and Rhustox. And according to him, it will often help when these seem indicated but fails.
In the words of Dr.Margret Lucy Tyler, “Phytolacca is one of our powerful and promptly acting remedies”.
Dr. John Henry Clarke has used Phytolacca 30 for sorethroat . A case of cancer of the rectum has been cured with Phytolacca 3x.
According to Raffinesque, quoted by Hale who introduced the remady into Homoeopathy, the ash of the plant has been used as an escharotic in cancers and in ulcers.
Sphere of Action + Pathogenesis :

Pre - eminently a glandular remedy, glandular swellings with heat and inflammation. Has a powerful effect on fibrous and osseous tissues, fasciae and muscle sheaths, acts scar tissues.
Throat : Glandular inflammation of neck, involving the parotid and sub maxillary glands, the tonsils and uvula.
Mammae: Inflammation of mammary glands with enlarged axillary glands. Painful and hard breasts, showing early tendency to cake. Abscesses and ulceration with cracks and tissues on nipples.

Extremities: Rheumatism, stiffness and pain. Inflammatory condition.
Skin: Early stages of cutaneous disease. Disposition to boils and sloughing.
