Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy
 

    Central Council for Homoeopathy (CCH) is a statutory body functioning under the Government of India. This council prescribes course curricula, evolve and maintain standards of education and maintain central registers of practitioners of Homoeopathy. Their main responsibilities are to regulate education and practice of respective systems of medicine and advice Government regarding education and grant permission for opening of new colleges, starting of new or higher courses of study and increase of admission capacity.

   The Government of India soon after Independence did not lose time to develop Homoeopathic System of Medicine. The setting up of Homoeopathic Enquiry Committee in 1948, the Committee by Planning Commission in 1951 and the Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia Committee in 1962 testify this. At the instance of the recommendation of these Committees, the Government of India has accepted Homoeopathy as one of the National System of Medicine. Some of the States also made their own contribution to Homoeopathic Education, the employment of Homoeopathic practitioners in health services and regulating the practice by enacting States Acts & Rules.

   The Govt. of India and the recommendations of these committees led to passing of a Central Act in 1973 for recognition of this system of medicine appointed a Homoeopathic Advisory Committee in 1952.

   The first council was inaugurated on 17th Feb 1974.Professor Amiya Kumar Kishu was the first president nominated by the Government. Dr.Jugal Kishore was elected as president and served from 1976 to 1991. Dr.S.P.S Bakshi was elected and is continuing his service as President of the Council since 1991. Dr Ramjee Singh is Vice president now.

   The President is the head of the council, besides Vice president assisted by Executtive committee and Education committee. P.G.Commitee Chairman of different committees and its members govern the council.

   Registrar cum Secretary, Asst secretary (Technical) Asst Secretary (Administrative) and Medical Inspectors and other officials hold office duties. Dr.Lalit Verma is serving as Registrar cum secretary since 1991 Dr.Ashis Datta holds office as Asst Secretary for technical and Sr. H.D. Rikhadi is the Asst Secretary for Administration. Medical inspectors are also functioning together.

   Each state is represented by its elected members from among themselves registered in the respective states. Each Medical University represents one member to the council. The Government of India also nominates members to the Central council of Homoeopathy. There are 24 State Councils and Boards functioning in the Nation. Recognized Medical qualifications in the schedules granted by the Universities are subjected to approval of the council.
