•     After 12 years of detailed case takings and case analysis, he found out that nearly all the patients with chronic diseases had a history of either Scabies, Syphilis, or Gonorrhoea and most of the patients were not well since the time of infection. He called these infections and the disease tendency arising from them, as miasms. The one arising from Scabies was called Psora or non-venereal miasm. The other two were called venereal miasms as they arose from sexual contact. The one arising from Syphilis was called Syphilitic miasm and the one from Gonorrhoea was called Sycotic miasm. 
  
      Dr.Hahnemann attempted to classify disease according to their microbiological properties. He accepted and confirmed the possible coexistence in the same patient of two or even 3 of the miasms which overlapped each other. He insisted that the physician needs to recognize and handle them adequately. This can be illustrated with an example
  
      If a person develops carcinoma we cannot treat it as a miasm as it is a single disease and a single drug of choice as “carcinocin”. We know the Carcinoma is a growth of two types, the benign and malignant. If it is Benign then it is a psoric or sycotic, but if malignant then it is syphilitic. So that we understand that miasms are in a state of change and shifting from one state to another owing to their virulence of the disease. This knowledge can be attributed only by knowledge of basic medical science subjects like Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology and pathology etc. This help a physician to understand the dynamic nature of disease force in an affected victim to apply a suitable “Simile “and eradicate it, root it out from the body.
  
  Modern concept on miasms
      The birth of cellular pathology, with its extensive laboratory demonstrations confirmed the ever- present correspondence of the whole with every one of its parts. Cellular pathology demonstrated that every transcending disturbance in the cell begins sensitization, proliferation and finally destruction. These disturbances can only be of three types:

  Miasmatic Expression in immunological diseases
  
  Psora
      Psoric manifestation of immunological disorder is expressed as an infection, allergic manifestation. Fundamentally Psora is a very healthy sign, but it can be altered depending on individuality to invite various types of infectious diseases. An allergic manifestation may be inherited as respiratory and skin disorders as we know the expressions are Urticaria, Eczema , Allergic Rhinitis and Bronchial asthma, even the hypersensitivity reactions and most extremely as a anaphylactic shock. A physical or chemical stimuli is sustained to give acute exacerbation in a body as exciting cause or maintaining cause.
  
      Psyche is expressed in the affected individuals as Anxiety and nervousness. Hypersensitive to external impressions are restless, irritable, nervousness. Pecularity in mental and physical make up are seen in appetite , desire for food, dreams etc. Suitable antipsoric drugs like Sulphur, Lycopodium, Calc carb may fit the patient constitutionally and miasmatically.

Sycosis
    Sycotic manifestations in immunological diseases are less. Constant irritation to the cells such as in Hashimotos thyroiditis may proliferate to Goiter.

    The psychic essence is characterized by the self-disdain that the patient develops as they become embarrassed and angry with themselves. Suspicious blame, feeling of inferiority, coupled with repentance over past events, which can lead to suicide. Dreams and imaginations of the patient are often fixed upon disease. Complaints of frightful dreams, that is to say, they can’t escape their fear of this disease. Compulsive behaviors such as pills counting, recurrent telephone calls to the Physician.Miasm produced over growth on cell aspects, mentally thinking things through again and again. The drugs like Thuja, Medorrihnum may be required

Syphilitic
    Syphilitic manifestations are seen in many auto immune diseases in which the cells suffers from dystrophy. The diseases like multiple sclerosis sufferers from destruction of neurons. Carcinomas of the lymphatic system such as leukemia are syphilitic. In vitiligo the auto immune response may destroy the melanin pigments. In Rheumatoid arthritis psora syphilitic charges are seen. In AIDS the disease may express in the skin as kaposis sarcoma. Anti syphilitic drugs like Syphilinum, Merc Sol, Aurum Met and other suitable drugs may be needed.
